Daily progress and Unlimited progress are saved separately.
Daily or Unlimited?
| Feature | Daily | Unlimited |
|---|---|---|
| Prompts | The same five for everyone on a given UTC date | Five drawn from your shuffled queue |
| New challenge | At midnight UTC | Whenever you start another expedition |
| Completion | Today’s result remains available | Start another game immediately |
| Share | Includes the date | Includes ∞ |
Daily has one saved attempt per date in your browser. Switching to Unlimited does not erase it. Unlimited avoids repeating questions until its queue cycles; Daily has its own selection and does not consume that queue.
Classic or Wander?
Classic: 60 seconds per pin. Opening a menu, switching tabs, or returning to the home page does not pause an active round.
Wander: no time limit. The rules, answer sets, and scoring tiers are otherwise the same. Shared results identify untimed games.
Choose the timer mode before starting a new expedition. Resuming an existing game keeps its original mode and progress. Changing the home-page selection does not restart a saved Daily.
What happens at midnight?
The date changes at midnight UTC, at the same moment worldwide. The home page shows today’s date and a countdown to the next Daily. Local midnight may be at a different time.
An expedition already in progress keeps its original date and prompts across midnight. The home page offers the new Daily, and can offer a continuation link for the most recently played unfinished Daily from an earlier date.
The Daily catalogue is fixed independently of the Unlimited bank. Adding more Unlimited prompts does not reshuffle an already published Daily.
What gets saved?
Your browser stores your Daily attempts, your current Unlimited expedition, the remaining Unlimited queue, best score, journey totals, and sound preference. An older Unlimited save remains resumable after the introduction of Daily.
There is no account or device sync. A different browser has separate progress, and clearing site data removes your saves. Starting a fresh Unlimited game asks before replacing an unfinished Unlimited expedition.
Sound on phones and tablets
Sound starts after you interact with the game. Use the speaker button in the top bar to enable or mute it; the game remembers your choice. On iPhone, tap the game again after returning from another app if sound has paused.
If you still cannot hear a cue, check your media volume, connected headphones, and Silent Mode. These device settings can affect browser audio.
A few details worth knowing
- Choosing a country and submitting a pin are separate actions.
- Every clue has at least three accepted countries.
- Map colouring after a round shows accepted answers; the full field notes list them.
- Scoring uses fixed country-familiarity tiers rather than live popularity.
- Sound can be muted from the top bar or menu. Your mute preference is saved.
- A Daily result can be viewed again without adding another completed journey to your totals.
